The NextGen Healthcare family is proud to share its latest milestone: The NextGen Share Provider Directory has surpassed the one million healthcare provider and facilities mark and it is now one of the largest health information service providers (HISPs) in the nation (see map above) and part of the DirectTrust collaborative. Over the course of the past three years, those in the directory have been able to send and receive more than 70 million direct secure messages. In addition to Direct messaging, NextGen Share also offers clients free connections to the Carequality framework, and the Surescripts National Record Locator Service (NRLS).

Provided by NextGen Healthcare to its clients free of charge, the directory was developed in 2014 to help ensure that vital health records follow patients regardless of where treatment occurs or what electronic health records are used. Shared data is sent and received from within clinical workflows to help ensure users meet MU, ACO, and true collaborative care requirements.

The U.S. healthcare industry loses $700 billion annually on lack of care coordination, unnecessary care, and provider errors, as noted in a recent IHS Markit report™. To help ensure your value-based care success, full clinical and financial interoperability is now essential.

Today, protected health information (PHI) must follow patients seamlessly through multiple caregivers–it’s the “new normal” and the cost of doing business. The NextGen Share Provider Directory brings healthcare providers one step closer to achieving interoperability goals.

Health information interoperability

Health information interoperability—the ability to capture, review, share, and reuse EHRs — presents challenges, such as patient data privacy and protected health information (PHI). Therefore, a reliable and efficient system to provide seamless data transfer through multiple caregivers while adhering to the highest standards of data privacy is a “must have.”

The good news is that interoperability doesn’t have to be complex or challenging to implement. There are proven ways to share information faster, safer, and more securely.  At the most basic level, the key to successful care coordination is your ability to find the external organizations with which you need to share data. It’s simpler than you might expect.
